Homeopathic Remedies for Grief

Homeopathic Remedies for Grief

grief

After some recent family illness, it occurred to me how significant homeopathy has been for me in difficult times. Although homeopathy cannot perform miracles, it can act as a support in times of distress or following a traumatic event and even stimulate the recovery process.

Homeopathy treats the individual and ‘like with like’. This means the homeopathic remedy will match the symptoms the individual is experiencing. We all experience and respond to situations in different ways it’s what makes us unique. Homeopathy
celebrates these differences.

We have all experienced grief, whether it is the death of a loved one, break up of a
relationship, family illness or even loss of a pet. There are different stages of grief; this is where homeopathy can be very useful. A homeopath will prescribe different
homeopathic remedies as time goes on and the individual finds themselves in different stages of processing what has happened.

I have provided a list of some of my most frequently used homeopathic remedies for grief. I would advise that you seek help from a qualified homeopath, instead of self-prescribing. The only exception to this would be the first remedy listed – Aconite, which can be used in 30c potency immediately following the event. I give this advice as working through grief can be a very difficult process and requires support.

1. Aconite
Very good for shock, when you have just heard/seen bad news. When there is a lot of fear, anxiety and worry. This is a very intense, acute homeopathic remedy, it works at its best as soon after the event as possible. Will help to instill calm and enable you to act from a more grounded and centered place.

2. Aurum
When a person is grieving and is in an Aurum state, they can enter profound
depression. If it is a loss of a loved one or a break-up, they will be heart-broken and cannot imagine ever recovering. The person will isolate themselves and be very
depressed falling into self-loathing and self-recrimination. The loss of their job can also lead to despairing feelings.

3. Ignatia
If someone needs Ignatia, when initially bereaved they will cry hysterically and in the weeks to follow be very emotionally volatile swinging from silent grief to hysteria, however their emotional outbursts will be quickly controlled. You may find a
characteristic sensation of a lump in the throat or lots of involuntary sighing.

4. Causticum
People who require Causticum feel they need to do something to help with their grief, eg. If a loved one passed away from cancer, then they will fight for cancer research charities, they will become activists. Physically, grief will affect movement and strength; they may develop chronic fatigue or local paralytic conditions.

5. Phosphoric Acid
These people will become emotionally numb and feel as though they are in a dream. They will become indifferent to things that used to interest them most and find it hard to think clearly. They may have a lack of appetite due to grief and feel completely
exhausted.

I would love to hear what other things have helped support you in times of need.
